Recently, 23 students from three colleges of Jinhua University of Vocational Technology: Information Engineering College(Waikato International College), Design College, and Medical College, participated in a 12-day research study program at Wintec - Waikato Institute of Technology in New Zealand. This program combined English language learning, international student life experience, and in-depth exploration of culture and industry, providing students with an immersive opportunity for educational exchange and personal growth.
English Language Learning: Small Class Interaction, Precise Improvement
At Wintec, students enjoyed a small-class, highly interactive, and contextualized English teaching model. In these engaging classrooms, students not only mastered practical language skills but also developed confidence and abilities in cross-cultural communication. At the closing ceremony, Girish Nair, Director of International at Wintec, presented language course certificates to the participants.
International Student Life Experience: Authentic Simulation, Local Integration
To better prepare students for future study abroad, the program arranged homestay accommodation. Students lived with local families, sharing daily life with family members from diverse cultural backgrounds including Europe, Asia, and Africa. This experience not only honed their independent living skills but also deepened their understanding and respect for foreign cultures.
Cultural and Industry Experience: In-depth Engagement, Future Inspiration
The study tour also included rich cultural and industry experiences. During the welcome ceremony at Wintec, students learned simple Māori language and songs, personally experiencing the unique charm of New Zealand's indigenous culture. Additionally, they visited local farms and Hobbiton, gaining insights into New Zealand's advanced animal husbandry and film production industries. These valuable experiences not only broadened their horizons but also provided beneficial inspiration for their future career planning and life paths.
It is reported that since Jinhua University of Vocational Technolog began its cooperative education program with Wintec in 2015, six research study programs have been organized, attracting over a hundred students to participate. Through comprehensive and multi-level experiences and learning, students have not only made significant progress in English language skills but have also gained valuable experience in adapting to international student life, cross-cultural communication, and expanding professional perspectives.
