Profile of Jinhua University of Vocational Technology

Jinhua University of Vocational Technology (JUVT) was established in 2024 with the approval of the Ministry of Education by integrating the resources of Jinhua Polytechnic. Its predecessor, Jinhua Polytechnic, was founded in 1994 and established with the approval of the Ministry of Education in 1998. From 1998 to 2000, it had successively acquired Zhejiang Agricultural Machinery School, Jinhua Trade and Economic School, Jinhua Agricultural School, Jinhua Normal School, Yiwu Normal School, and Jinhua Health School. It was selected as a national model higher vocational college construction unit in 2007, a key higher vocational college in Zhejiang Province in 2017, and a national high-quality junior vocational college in June 2019. Furthermore, it was designated as a high-level school (Grade A) construction unit of the National Plan for the Construction of High-Level Higher Vocational Educational Institutions and Disciplines with Chinese Characteristics in December 2019.

In line with the regional economic and industrial structure, JUVT has continuously optimized its major structure. It has established 10 secondary specialized colleges in the fields of information technology, electromechanical engineering, architecture engineering, pharmaceuticals, normal education, agronomy, medicine, business, art, and tourism, as well as a General Education College (College of Marxism). It offers six pioneering undergraduate majors, 58 associate degree majors, 2 four-year higher vocational pilot majors, 1 undergraduate teaching point major, and 4 joint education majors for top-up degrees, with 22,000 full-time students. Currently, it has over 1,600 faculty members, including 5 talents enjoying the special government allowance of the State Council, 1 National Model Teacher, 2 winners of the National May Day Labor Medal, 2 national teaching innovation teams, and 2 Huang Danian-style teacher teams of national colleges and universities. In recent years, it has won 16 first prizes and 1 third prize in the National Vocational College Teaching Ability Competition, as well as 11 national teaching achievement awards, including 2 first prizes. It has won 2 first prizes of the National Textbook Construction Award, with 121 national-level planned textbooks being approved. 4 national-level ideological and political demonstration courses have been approved, with the designation of 4 national famous ideological and political teaching teachers and teams. In the National Vocational College Skills Competition, it led other colleges in China in terms of the total number of students winning awards and awards.

Focusing on major construction, JUVT promotes intelligent and digital transformation of majors and green transformation and continues to deepen the major brand building. In recent years, it has added new majors such as aviation manufacturing, aviation maintenance, and drone technology and established the School of Aeronautical Engineering. It has been successively rated as a national-level maker space, a construction unit of a national innovation and entrepreneurship college, one of the first vocational college innovation and entrepreneurship education bases approved by the Ministry of Education, and a national university career characteristic consulting studio. As one of the 100 colleges and universities in China that monitor the employment situation of graduates, it sends over 7,000 graduates every year, with over 97% of its graduates joining the workforce. A large number of outstanding alumni have emerged who have won honors such as National Model Teacher, National Model of Teachers' Ethics, National May Day Labor Medal, National March 8 Red-banner Pacesetter, National Moral Model, Person of the Year of Touching China, National Advanced Individual in Poverty Alleviation, National Advanced Worker, and Civil Servant Satisfied by the People. The quality of student sources has been increasing year by year. From 2022 to 2023, the proportion of enrolled students in the province whose score has surpassed the minimum score for undergraduate admission has exceeded 100% for two consecutive years.

JUVT closely integrates with the industrial form of small enterprises, large clusters and the concept of massive economy. It has established two academician and expert workstations and obtained approval for one provincial key laboratory, one provincial engineering laboratory, and one collaborative innovation center for applied technology. It has also established 22 provincial high-tech (scientific) technology R&D centers. In recent years, it has undertaken 36 national projects and 436 provincial and ministerial projects, obtained more than 2,500 authorized patents and over 400 software copyrights, and received over RMB 43 million in annual horizontal technical service and training funds. The Zhejiang Modern Vocational Education Research Center jointly established by Jinhua Polytechnic and Zhejiang Research Institute of Education Science has undertaken over 60 research tasks entrusted by the Ministry of Education and the Department of Education. Its research results in vocational education have been approved by leaders at or above the provincial and ministerial levels for more than 40 times.

With a focus on industry-education integration, JUVT has achieved significant progress by consolidating industrial, academic, and research-driven innovation and education. Adhering to a strategy of creating one platform per specialty cluster, it emphasizes the formation of an industry-education community with shared benefits. It has launched one of the first intelligent precision manufacturing parks dedicated to industry-education integration in China and the Zhejiang Modern Agriculture Vocational Education Group, recognized as a pioneer among national demonstration vocational education groups. Its associated kindergarten has emerged as a regional model, and its affiliated hospital's construction is progressing smoothly, with trial operations set to begin soon. Furthermore, it has taken the lead in establishing industry-education integration platforms such as Jinyi Metropolitan Area Industry-Education Consortium and National Intelligent Electrical Tools and Childcare Industry-Education Integration Community. The university has engaged in diverse collaborations with the Jinhua Economic and Technological Development Zone, Jinyi New Urban District, Wuyi County, Pan'an County, and Wucheng District. It has jointly established the Jinhua Emergency Management College, Veterans College, and Rural Revitalization College with government departments, deepened the training + model, and provided social training for over 120,000 people annually. It has taken the initiative to run schools in various counties, partnering with the People's Government of Wuyi County to jointly establish Wuyi College. Additionally, it has set up four affiliated secondary vocational schools: Pan'an Vocational Education Center, Wuyi Vocational Education Center, Jiufeng Vocational School, and Wucheng Experimental Middle School. These efforts aim to foster the integrated cultivation and coordinated development of secondary and higher vocational education in the region. It has successively carried out pairing cooperation and exchanges with over 50 colleges such as Aksu Vocational and Technical College and Xichang Minzu Preschool Normal College.

JUVT has established long-term cooperative relations with over 100 universities and educational institutions in 39 countries and regions. Committed to the integrated development and mutual promotion of education and industry, it focuses both introduction and export of talent. It has carried out two Sino-foreign cooperative school-running projects and has jointly built one pilot project of Sino-German dual system talent training with provincial and ministerial departments. Additionally, it has cooperated with New Zealand to build Waikato International College, a demonstrative Chinese-foreign cooperative school-running institution. It has set up an overseas campus in Rwanda, known as Rwanda Musanze International College, which was included in the first batch of national Luban Workshops. It has trained more than 1,200 international students, including over 300 from Rwanda, continuously expanding its circle of friends along the Belt and Road Initiative. It is now a member of the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP), a member of the China-Africa TVET Cooperation Consortium, a vice chairman unit of the China & Africa (South Africa) Technical and Vocational Education Cooperation Alliance, and a vice chairman unit of the Luban Workshop Construction Alliance. It has been shortlisted for the Future of Africa—a project for China-Africa cooperation on vocational education, the first batch of Luban Workshop Operation Projects in China, the Chinese Workshop project of the Ministry of Education, and the first batch of Silk Road Colleges under the Belt and Road Initiative in Zhejiang Province. It has hosted the Forum on China-Africa Vocational Education in consecutive years, consistently ranking first among higher vocational colleges in Sichuan Province in terms of education internationalization.

JUVT has deeply implemented the Red Roots Foundation Strengthening Project and the Enhancing University Strength through Focused Improvement of its Schools and Departments project. It has been selected as a national demonstration university for Party building work. It has one national benchmark department for Party building work, three model Party branches, and one Double Leader office for teachers and Party branch secretary. It has been rated as a National Advanced Unit in Vocational Education and ranked among the Top 50 higher vocational colleges in terms of service contribution, international influence, teaching resources, educational effectiveness, internship management, teaching management, and student management. It has also been selected as a national high-quality school for rural revitalization talent training, and a national vocational education double-qualified teachers training base. Furthermore, it has been selected into four major lists of national higher vocational colleges: typical service contribution school, excellent student development index school, advantageous resource construction school, and outstanding teacher development index school.From 2015 to 2019, it ranked first in Zhejiang Province for five consecutive years in teaching and performance assessments of higher vocational and technical colleges. In 2024, it ranked first in the provincial comprehensive assessment of higher vocational colleges.
