Recently, the final competition of the 2024 World Skills Competition (International Group) was successfully held. Jinhua University of Vocational Technology, teamed up with RP-Musanze College to participate. After intense competition with over 300 teams from vocational colleges across the country, a multinational team composed of four students—Yan Meng, UWAMAHORO Alphonsine, UMWALI ANGE NATACHA, and NGABONZIZA Elie—won the gold medal with their project titled Smarter cooking, Better living—Smart Kitchenware Enters the African Market (instructors: Zhang Ao, Xu Anqi). Another multinational team, consisting of Hong Encheng, TUYIHIMBAZE Israel, and MBONIMANA Philimine, won the bronze medal with their project Electromagnetic Valve Intelligent Packaging Digital Solution (instructors: Zuo Zhenyang, Hu Yue).
In response to the new rules, the competition teams actively integrated resources, and the instructors worked closely with team members to overcome challenges such as equipment modifications and tight preparation schedules. They carefully studied the competition regulations and refined the project content, ultimately achieving excellent results—securing the gold and bronze awards in their respective categories. This demonstrates the challenge oneself and strive for excellence spirit of African and Chinese vocational students.
It is reported that RP-Musanze College is a cooperative partner of Jinhua University of Vocational Technology for overseas education. The international students participating in this competition are all from the joint Future Africa program between the two universities. This year’s competition is the first to feature an “International Group,” attracting 1,279 contestants from 73 countries and regions across Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Africa, and Oceania, forming 413 teams to compete in 36 different events. The students were assessed based on their project tasks, which required them to divide duties according to specific job roles, explain the skill operations, and record videos of the process. The comprehensive evaluation considered five aspects: skill level, professional ethics, application value, teamwork, and innovation.
