Recently, the Zhejiang University Institute of Higher Education Research officially released the Zhejiang Province Higher Education Internationalization Annual Report (2023) (hereafter referred to as the Annual Report). Jinhua University of Vocational Technology(JUVT) has ranked first in the overall internationalization level of higher vocational colleges in Zhejiang Province. This marks the fifth consecutive year that the university has secured the top spot.
In recent years, JUVT has adhered to the strategy of “Bringing in” and “Going Global” with the goals of “serving national strategies, regional economies, and professional development.” Focusing on sino-foreign cooperative education, overseas education, international student education, and the research platforms, the university has implemented a “Deepening Development” plan for international cooperation, aiming to create an international open-brand image.
In 2023, internationalization efforts of JUVT earned national and provincial honors, including the approval of the Future Africa - China-Africa Vocational Education Cooperation Project, the Ministry of Education's Chinese Bridge online group exchange program, Zhejiang's first batch of Small but Beautiful overseas projects, and the Zhejiang International Student National Conditions Education Teachers’ Studio. The university also signed cooperation memorandums with 11 foreign institutions, joined the China-Arab Universities Alliance exchange mechanism guided by the Ministry of Education, and the China-Laos Vocational Education Industry-Education Alliance, further expanding its international cooperation platforms.
The Waikato International College was elected as the rotating chair unit for the Second Vocational College Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Institutions and Programs Joint Conference. The college successfully renewed its cooperation on the Sino-U.S. Sports Operation and Management Program, established the Luban Workshop in Rwanda, enrolled and trained 95 international degree-seeking students, and actively built diverse training resources platforms such as 1+4 Online and Offline Dual-Mode and the Vocational Chinese Teaching Resource Center. The university also provided training in Chinese + vocational skills to nearly 10,000 people, further highlighting the effectiveness of its cooperative education.
JUVT hosted over 200 foreign visitors from 10 countries and regions for cooperation discussions, accepted and dispatched over 150 faculty and students for inter-school exchanges and study programs, and organized more than 10 international academic conferences, including the China-Africa Vocational Education Forum and the China-Singapore Vocational Education Forum. Additionally, JUVT officially opened the International Cultural Exchange Center, deepening international academic and cultural exchanges.
The China-Africa Vocational Education Research Center released one research achievement, and six research projects were approved by the Ministry of Education’s Chinese Language Center for international Chinese education. The center also contributed five outstanding cases to the UNESCO report Learner-Centered TVET Teaching and was invited to share experiences on over 10 high-level platforms, such as the China-Africa Vocational Education Union. The educational influence od JUVT has further expanded.
According to reports, since 2012, the Zhejiang University Institute of Higher Education Research, entrusted by the Zhejiang Provincial Education International Exchange Association, has conducted internationalization surveys of universities across the province and published annual reports. The Annual Report surveyed the internationalization status of 107 universities in Zhejiang in 2023. Based on a comprehensive adjustment of internationalization indicators in 2022, the survey further optimized relevant indicators such as cooperation platforms, international communications, and organizational management. It highlights the overall requirement to balance going global and bringing in to enhance the level of educational openness, providing intellectual support for the overall improvement of internationalization in the province's universities.
